Chapter 1: End of days

Colin stared into the deep blue abyss, the ocean breathed splashing above the dock I sat on. The sky was grey and dull, representing an overcast for today’s weather or the past few days the weather has been acting like this.

A virus struck earth during the end of February. I was alone renting an apartment 20 minutes away from this dock in the city of San Francisco. Money was easing because of this virus but life wasn’t getting any easier. While lost in my thoughts I noticed a person had walked by wondering if everything was fine.

“The worlds gone to the dogs, so no, everything isn’t OK” I shook my head looking back into the water and looking at myself I needed a good shave and my hair has grown these last couple of months. I looked back to where the person was no one was there.. I realized I was talking to myself, angry with myself I got up from my hideout and hurried to my car which was an old 1982 Chevrolet Monte Carlo which was my father’s.

I felt the world rush around me once I turned the key into the ignition, the engine came to life, I looked behind me the highway was abandoned and quiet.. too quiet for my liking. I drove to my apartment which was a 10-minute drive because I didn’t realize how fast I was going.

I arrived at my apartment, three homeless guys were standing out the front, smoking cigarettes with faces of distraught and loss. I nodded at them and went up the flight of stairs to my apartment which was on the 6th floor of the building. My favourite thing about the building was taking the elevator which I used frequently it allowed me to think about my life and have some time to rest even if it was just a short ride.

The elevator made a sound which distracted me from my thoughts.  I walked out, humming a bees gees song in my head to get my mind off what was happening in this world. I walked down the hallway to my apartment door which read 5A the next thing I knew I laying in my room which was surrounded by cans of soda and water bottles, not a single alcohol bottle insight because those days were over, darkness flooded the room as I fell into a deep sleep.
