SPECTACULAR SHOW
“Was a Spectacular Show{sic}” Tourist Matthew Robinson who travelled with his wife and two young boys from Diggers Rest stated. “We only came up for the Easter Weekend as a quiet getaway; we hadn’t been up this way before. But it was amazing to see that Bendigo had something for families. My boys (ages 3 and 5) were defiantly happy to see the Fire Engines and Dragons, and they’re quite excited to see the fireworks display.” Matthew then explained.
Matthews’s family being one of many who have visited the City of Bendigo Easter festivities over the weekend, most of which also attending tonight’s Torchlight and Lantern Procession with many of the locals residences. The Bendigo Easter Gala and Torchlight Lantern Procession have been a long standing tradition for 138 years, since 1879 to help raise goods and funds to the Bendigo Hospital and Bendigo Benevolent Asylums.
Members of the CFA in Golden Square kicked off their very first Procession in 1880, marching with Members of the Bendigo Chinese Association who began the beloved tradition in 1879. Before long, other local CFA, other emergency precincts and lanterns joined in on the march. Starting a long tradition of Torchlight and Lanterns being displayed.
Fireworks
Since, it has played a huge part to the three day festivities that are held in the heart and centre of the Bendigo District followed by a display of Fireworks. The event organised by Bendigo Easter Fair Society with help from City Greater Bendigo is free for families to attend. The Easter Festival is held from Good Friday to Easter Monday each year.18
