An eighteen year old Bendigo man has plead guilty in Bendigo Magstrates Court on Monday, charged with careless driving and drink driving. In July the man, driving his grandmothers car, crashed while trying to do a burnout at a set of traffic lights. He lost control and hit a parked car before fleeing from witnesses on foot. Refugees Seeking Asylum In Bendigo

A vote on whether or not to take part in the government’s Safe Haven Enterprise Visa program may see only a small number of refugees to Bendigo, says Mayor Peter Cox. The September 16th vote, if passed, will grant visas to asylum seekers who arrived in Australia prior to July 2013 and have passed health and security checks. Zimbabwe lift hunting ban

Zimbabwe has lifted a series of restrictions on hunting only eleven days after the brutal slaying of Cecil the Lion. The Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Authority announced in a statement on August 10 “The suspension of wildlife hunting in all other areas outside the parks estate has been lifted with immediate effect.”

Police a Comforting Presence as Protesters Face Off

BENDIGO, 29th August 2015 On Saturday afternoon anti-Islamic protesters, led by the United Patriots Front and Reclaim Australia, rallied in the centre of Bendigo, where they were met with a counter rally in support of the building of Bendigo’s first mosque. Police presence was palpable, with the town centre barricaded since Friday evening, and officers on horseback and on foot keeping the groups separated.

Family to face massive penalties but avoid gaol

A family which operated a dog breeding business described by the RSPCA as ‘’squalid, rancid and in an absolute state of neglect’’ looks set to avoid gaol despite making a reported $700, 000 from the mistreated animals. Pyramid Hill puppy farmers Dean Peace, 46, and his parents John and Phyllis Peace, both 75, of Cohuna, faced the second day of sentencing in the Bendigo Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 19 August where they pleaded guilty to over 240 combined charges.

The Great Bridgewater Crater Exposed

BRIDGEWATER, Tuesday, August 18, The mystery surrounding an object that crash-landed in Bridgewater two weeks ago has been revealed to be nothing but a dull, old parachute test. Rumours swirled when a crater containing circuit boards, computer chips and other electronics was found by the side of a highway two weeks ago by locals. Kennington Man Fronts Court Accused of Woman’s Murder

Kennington, Tuesday 21 July, 2015 ustin Kain Ellard was remanded in Police Custody, accused of the murder of Kennington woman Jacinta Pompei. At midday he appeared in the Bendigo Magistrates Court via video link. He did not apply for bail. Police allege Ellard murdered 32-year-old Ms Pompei sometime between July 20 and 21 in a Mijuda Court unit.
